We would like to start this edition by introducing and welcoming our two new staff members, Fiona Glynn and Chelsea Davis. Fiona is our Accounts Administrator and she will be dealing with membership enquiries, subscriptions and exhibition enquiries. Chelsea is our Intern for 2010 and is in her second year of a Communications Degree at AUT. She will be writing the members bulletins and newsletters and assisting with events.

Also, a warm welcome to our 35 new members this month. This includes the secondary students who won an award at this year's Ara Awards. They recieved a scholarship from the Ara Lodge to pursue art at tertiary level and a year's free membership to the NZ Art Guild.  Remember to take the time to check out our members artworks in their online galleries on our website.

Congratulations to ...
Anni Morris - A British art magazine called " Leisure Painter" are doing a feature article in their March issue on NZ Art Guild member Anni Morris. They are including her fabulous artwork 'The Green Hat'  below. This was originally created for a NZ Art Guild Challenge last year and won both the Peoples Choice and Most Creative. 

Sophia Elise had a feature article -  "More than Decor" -  in the Feburary edition of HER Business Magazine - check it out on her website.

Last month you will have read about the 5 NZ Art Guild artists chosen by American Jewellery company to have their original artworks created into fabulous Bajidoo Bangles. Since then, Rachael Inch was featured on the front page of the Malvern News and Lauryne Hart and Sophia Elise were featured in the North Shore Times Advertiser.


Featured Exhibition
"
New Zealand's Got Talent" is an exhibition which features both award-winning and emerging artists. It showcases a broad range of styles and is an expose of the upcoming visual art talent that New Zealand has to offer. From abstract to landscapes, mixed media to mosaics the  lineup of 29 amazing artists is sure to delight viewers from all walks of life.  The month long exhibit will be held at City Gallery, Don Street, Invercargill and opening night at 7pm, March 5th 2010. The exhibition itself is open to the public and will run from March 5th-31st.
 
Participating NZ Art Guild Artists are: Janet Marshall, Sophia Elisa, Kirsty Black, Tanya Dann, Jane Santos, Natasha Shackleton, Chavah Kinloch, Sally Blyth, Robyn Robertson, Amy Mackiewicz, Sharlene Schmidt, Michelle Wallis, Suzanne Carter, Marimba Powley, Cath Sheard, Ambury Hall, Lyn Hurring, Pam Tapp, Ana Te Huurne, Sofia Spirtova and Rachael Inch.

Non- NZ Art Guild Artists: Philina Den Dulk, Tracey Strenhouse, Denita Tizard, Kay Ward, Alfred Memelink,Theresa Cashmore, Melissa McCreanor, and Erika Husselmann.


Featured Artists
Our intern Chelsea Davis is going to be doing a new feature called Artist of the Month which will spotlight a NZ Art Guild member who has been doing amazing things. So watch this space!

This months art challenges
Every fortnight a challenge is issued to our guild members and also to members of our facebook group. These challenges are completely voluntary. Submissions must be original and be completed during the 2-week time frame. Participants may choose to interpret the theme in any way they wish. The theme for this challenge was "Well known sayings" -  Choose a well known saying and using 5 colours or less (including black and white) and convey that saying.

The theme for this challenge was "Where the Wild Things Are" - Use the book or movie "Where the Wild Things Are" as inspiration to create an artwork.

ART BEAT - News for Artists
Small Things Bright and Beautiful
A chance to exhibit some of your work at the Cre8tive Kiwi Art Studio + Gallery in Tauranga. The cost is $10 per entry, $35 for 4 or $50 for 6. All artwork are to be 25cm x 25cm. The exhibition will be open 1st April to 30th of April.
