ARTIST PROFILE:
I am an Auckland-based self-taught artist and facilitator, who enjoys creating a diverse range of works. I have won a number of awards, exhibited widely and my works are in collections in New Zealand, UK, Australia, USA and beyond. I also receive invitations to contribute my artworks to various charitable auctions, both in NZ and overseas, and am always happy to support the cause.

Inspired by countries and their cultures, I love sourcing new ideas and materials, and devising innovative ways of interpreting and using them. My aim is to evoke a sense of actually being in a particular place and time, rather than recreate an image which can be captured on camera.  A symbol, a colour, a word, an impression, a mood ... if the viewer can recall the feeling of being in that place; gain the desire to be there; experience that moment in time again ... then the art has done its work.

I incorporate acrylics, oils, inks, woodstains, metallics and mixed media into my work, on canvas and board, as well as more unusual backgrounds. Colour, texture and iridescence are important elements in my work, and by adding the odd subtle touch and embellishment, I hope you will look beyond your first glance of the artwork.
I also create unique one-off masquerade masks for wearing and for decoration. I make these to order to match outfits, and create mask artworks for display.

I work from my home-based studio overlooking the garden, and regularly exhibit at group exhibitions around Auckland and beyond. I am constantly experimenting with new styles and techniques, and always on the lookout for fresh ideas and inspiration and enjoy travelling far and wide to find them.
