Sophia Elise - MHF

Sophia Elise has generously donated this stunning  artwork which will be auctioned on opening night of the NZ Art Guild's exhibition "Out of the Blue".  100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Mental Health Foundation of NZ (MHF) You can help support MHF by coming to the opening night and bidding on this fantastic artwork on the July 2nd 2009 at the Bruce Mason Centre, Takapuna Beach, Auckland.

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION:
This artwork is about the battles that we face on an often daily basis - some are bigger than others – the path is not always smooth - the texture represents all these different periods in our lives.  The dot part is from my journey of life series and represents the different paths that we take in life - the twists and turns, the branches ....  we all need to realise that every person we meet in life may be bearing some kind of load that we cannot see .. treat everyone with love, sensitivity and understanding.

ARTIST PROFILE:
Sophia Elise is a self-taught artist living in Auckland with her two children. She is a founding member and manager of the NZ Art Guild and also actively involved in the local art community as a Trust Board Member for Mairangi Art Centre.

When Sophia first started painting she was told by well known NZ artist, IKS Robertson, to "Make it Memorable". With every creation, Sophia achieves this by drawing inspiration from her emotions and forging it with her environment and experiences to create unique, original art which is a window into her soul. By doing this she encourages the viewer to connect on a deeper level and explore places within themselves.

Sophia has two very distinct styles of art. She is an extremely tactile person and this love of texture is reflected in her heavily textured, minimalist, abstract style which often incorporates resin. Her other distinctive style is created entirely with hand painted dots which result in very funky detailed artwork with an almost Aboriginal look to them.

She has been involved in numerous exhibitions throughout NZ and recently exhibited internationally in London.  She has also been selected as a finalist in several NZ Art Awards. Her art can be found in select NZ galleries and is held in many international art collections.

Sophia also feels passionately about her art helping those less fortunate so has donated to many charity art events including - UNICEF NZ, Mental Health Foundation, Art Aid Trust, NZ Shore Plover etc
