ARTIST PROFILE:
Steve was born in 1955 and is a self taught New Zealand artist who has always had a love of the ocean and a passion for art.  He has surfed since he was 17 and has many surfing memories tucked under his wetsuit.  Steve often surfed his local break at Bethells Beach as a youngster, and later Muriwai Beach found its way into his heart and that of his wife.  It became their home on and off for nearly 30 years, boasting one of the most rugged and picturesque surfing spots in New Zealand.

Steve has now settled in Gulf Harbour on the Hibiscus Coast and his passion for surf art has now found its natural home on the ultimate canvas - the surfboard.  It so beautifully reflects what it was designed to do, surf the perfect wave.  His eye for shape and texture together with acrylic compound has enabled him to create a unique three dimensional effect.  It captures the imagination and makes you wish you were there.  Steve also endeavours to give his work a nostalgic feel which many a surfer will relate to.  He wants to take people back to a much simpler time, an era before the world became so complicated and hectic.

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION:
Most surfers have their favourite break. For some they choose to keep it secret - it is their 'Spot X', maybe only telling a few close friends in which they are happy to share it with.  Sadly there are not too many Spot X's left as the popularity of surfing and travel increase.  This board was owned and surfed by a Brazilian pro surfer who no doubt had his Spot X. This board reflects the secret break...wherever it may be.
